The Capes Region is comparatively stronger in agricultural industries than other regions within WA. With 10 of the 18 industries associated with the agriculture, food, forestry, and fishing sector being over represented compared to other regions the area's economy still includes a major component of the primary industries. The wine, spirits and tobacco products and dairy cattle industries in particular are significantly over represented in the Capes Region.
Also significant in the region is tourism as a fundamental part of the local economy with the accommodation, cafes and restaurants sector, comprising 5.3 per cent of businesses, compared to the national average of 2.8 per cent.
