Community facilities
Planning effectively for the provision of community infrastructure represents a significant challenge for local government. Unlike other forms of infrastructure where there are clear and specific standards (eg road and drainage), the extent to which a local government provides community infrastructure, and the type of infrastructure that is provided, is at the discretion of the local government.
To assist this determination process, the development of a Community Facilities Plan was commissioned. This Plan contains the following key sections:
- An assessment of current and future demographic trends to identify key characteristics that will impact on the type of community facilities that the Shire will require;
- An assessment of current community facilities;
- Identification of current and future requirements;
- Approaches to facilities provision; and
- Framework and recommendations for the Shire to consider.
