Striving towards a safe working environment
It is the policy of the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River as employers who have control over the workplace to do everything practicable to ensure that our employees are not exposed to hazards. We will use our best endeavours to provide all our workers with workplace conditions and job procedures which seek to minimise the risk of injury and illness to people and damage to property.
- The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River (Shire) recognises that it has a duty of care towards persons who are engaged to work for the Shire and also to others whose health and safety may be put at risk by Shire workers.
- The Shire is committed to continuous improvement in Occupational Health and Safety planning, implementation and reviewing our performance towards controlling work-related injury, illness and property damage.
- In fulfilling this commitment, the Shire will provide where reasonably practicable a safe and healthy work environment as required by using proven best practices complying with all relevant legislation and standards together with having a dedicated Occupational Safety and Health Officer and Committee to consult with staff, Council and the community in achieving a high standard of safety.
- All management functions will comply with Shire of Augusta-Margaret River’s OSH policy and procedures, as they apply to all people, design, operations and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- All employees, contractors, volunteers and councillors will perform their jobs in accordance with established procedures, and have a personal commitment to safety and loss prevention.
- Occupational Safety and Health disputes shall be handled in accordance with Council’s Issue Handling procedure.
- Council and management will promote compliance with all relevant legislation, and industry standards, in particular the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1984 and Australian Standard AS/NZS 4801:2001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
