Event approval
The Shire supports major tourist events which bring large numbers of tourists to the area and represent value for the ratepayer’s dollar. Smaller, local events are also valued as they contribute to our vibrant and thriving community.
Organisers of proposed events should contact the Environmental Health Service to discuss which permits and approvals may be required for the event. The Information for Event Organisers provides further information on application requirements.
When reviewing event applications, the Shire considers the likely impact on residents and the wider community, taking into account noise or nuisance, alcohol consumption, number of patrons and any additional factors.
When assessing proposed events, the Shire is guided by regulations and policies which include the following:
- Health Act 1911
- Health (Public Building) Regulations 1992
- Building Code of Australia
- Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991
- Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997
- Road Traffic Act 1974
- Shire Policies Events Assessment Policy and Cape to Cape Surfing Policy
- Local Law (Parks, Reserves and Foreshores) 1997
