Light vehicles travelling to Margaret River from the north are reminded there will be two ways to access the town centre.
Option 1 – access to businesses/properties north of the Shell service station/Coles Express via Bussell Highway with access to the remainder of town via the existing detour (up Higgins Street and along Townview Terrace).
Option 2 – access to businesses/properties north of the Shell service station/Coles Express via Bussell Highway with access to the remainder of town via the Perimeter Road and John Archibald Drive. This also the route for all traffic heading south to Witchcliffe/Augusta.

Full pedestrian access will be maintained in front of these shops.
A portion of Bussell Highway north of the Margaret River townsite, will be closed for approximately four weeks to allow for the installation of stormwater infrastructure as part of Main Street Makeover works. Detours and traffic management will be in place during this period. All vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to please follow the directions of traffic management personnel and follow the directional detour signage at all times. *

Updated communications will be reissued as soon as practical.

Road Closure Notice - Leeuwin Road from 3-6 March
In accordance with section 3.50 of the Local Government Act 1995, Part 3 (functions of Local Governments – Closing certain thoroughfares to vehicles), the Shire of Augusta Margaret River will be closing a section of Leeuwin Road to remove a portion granite rock.
Works to upgrade and widen Leeuwin Road commenced Monday 4 February 2020. In widening the road, construction teams have uncovered large sections of granite rock that will need to be removed with a 35 tonne excavator. Closing the road is our best option to ensure public safety and minimise delays in delivering the project.
The date for this closure is now going to take place on Tuesday 3 March 2020 for approximately 4 days (weather permitting) Unfortunately the previously advised date of closure has changed as the hired equipment is not available until this date. We apologise for any further inconvenience.
During this period, the portion of Leeuwin Rd will be closed to all traffic. Traffic will be diverted around the job site using Skippy Rock Road (see map below). Traffic management will be in place and people are asked to follow directional signage. Skippy Road is a gravel road, please drive to the conditions. Visual Message Sign boards will inform drivers of the closure dates and let people know Augusta Boat Harbour remains open.
The Shire would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding of this unforeseen circumstance and if you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact the Shire’s Coordinator Works, Peter Brophy on 0427 903 153
