Responsible Cat Ownership

CatAll cat owners have a responsibility to ensure that their cat is well looked after and does not cause a nuisance to others in the community.

All cats over the age of 6 months that are kept within the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River are required to be sterilised, microchipped and registered. Apart from being a legal requirement, registration also assists Rangers in quickly reuniting lost cats with their owners. In addition, all cats must wear a collar with a valid registration tag.

Anyone wishing to breed cats must obtain a permit from the Shire and must be an approved cat breeder in accordance with the Cat Act 2011.

Registration Fees

Registration fees can  be paid at the Margaret River or Augusta Shire offices Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm (please note, the Augusta office is closed between 12pm and 1pm). Proof of sterilisation must be provided at the time of registration.
