The annual Firebreak Notice sets out the requirements for residents and visitors in relation to reducing the fire risk in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
Please ensure you are aware of the requirements for your land, and assist the Shire and volunteer bush fire brigades by undertaking fuel reduction works prior to and during the burning season. This includes cleaning of leaf litter from roofs and gutters, clearing flammable materials away from buildings and haystacks etc for a distance of 20 metres, and planting fire retardant (resistant) species as part of landscaping.
More information and permits to burn can be sought from one of the Shire's many Fire Control Officers who are listed in the Notice. The Shire's Rangers are also Fire Control Officers, providing administration of the Bush Fires Act 1954 and Regulations, public education and advice on fire prevention and bushfire safety awareness.
Please be aware that should you be convicted of setting fire to the bush without a permit, as per Section 17(6)(a) of the Bush Fires Act 1954, you may be penalised up to $5000.
A Variation to Notice can be requested if it meets certain conditions as outlined in the Bush Fire Management Notice.
All requests must be made by the property owner or person authorised to act upon the owners behalf. Individual requests are required for each property and must be submitted to the Shire by 22 November. Application form here.
Variation approvals only carry over into future fire seasons if confirmed in writing by the Shire.
